Deep Dive: Arctic Policy 101
Global Water Scarcity

TBD

This event is part of Deep Dive, a week of activities under our Global Water Scarcity Initiative. Deep Dive will be postponed until early 2019. Stay tuned for more details.

Join us for a dynamic introduction to governance, water management, and shifting policy regimes in the Arctic featuring Lieutenant Commander Jeremy McKenzie of the US Coast Guard and Center for Arctic Study and Policy (CASP).

In the last decade, rising temperatures have dramatically shifted Arctic terrain. Ice-loss has been rapidly accelerating, bringing international attention to a region where diminishing ice means increasing access to resources: fish, oil, gas, and other minerals. LCDR McKenzie will discuss how these topographic changes have influenced regional governance, share an overview of the state and non-state actors involved in policy formation and on-the-ground management, and discuss the increasing challenges of climate change.

This event is recommended for attendees of the Beaufort Seas simulation on December 14, but open to all who are interested. We will also provide a video link for anyone unable to attend in person.

Attendees are invited to join an optional happy hour taking place after the event from 6:00-7:00 PM. Any questions can be directed to Amie Kashon at akashon@pacificcouncil.org.
