A special sustaining member breakfast discussion with Mr. Maajid Nawaz, Co-Founder and Chairman of Quilliam, a think tank focused on advocating pluralistic, democratic alternatives to extremism. 

Mr. Nawaz is the author of the acclaimed autobiographical account of his life story, RADICAL, which covers his journey from the leadership ranks of a global Islamist organization to his current standing a leading critic of extremism and advocate for liberal democratic values. How can we work together to discredit the extremist ideology of Islamism, and reform Islamic discourse? How do we counter violent extremism around the world, and advance liberal democratic values in its place?

Maajid Nawaz is Co-Founder and Chairman of Quilliam – a globally active think tank focusing on matters of integration, citizenship and identity, religious freedom, extremism and immigration. Human rights and a respect for individual liberty are matters close to Maajid’s heart. His work is informed by years spent in his youth as a leadership member of a global Islamist group, and his gradual transformation towards liberal democratic values. Read more.

Marc B. Nathanson is Chairman of Mapleton Investments, a diversified investment holding company and Falcon Waterfree Technologies, the leading global maker of water conservation products. In 2012, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, appointed Nathanson as her representative to the Board of the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Nathanson is Vice Chair of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and was founding Chair of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) for Los Angeles.
