A Situation Briefing teleconference on U.S. involvement with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) under the Trump administration.

Some NATO member states are worried that the United States will not protect them against unfriendly aggression, based on remarks President-elect Donald J. Trump made during the recent presidential campaign. In July 2016, then-candidate Trump said U.S. military support for NATO member states was conditionally based on whether they meet their financial obligations to the bloc, a departure from more than 60 years of bipartisan foreign policy in the United States. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently expressed confidence that Trump "will maintain American leadership in the alliance and will maintain a strong commitment to European security." Meanwhile, Russia and NATO are both currently engaged in building up a military presence in the Baltic region.

Is the United States headed for conflict with NATO during the Trump administration? How will Trump's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin affect U.S.-NATO ties?
