A Local Field Foray to the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier in San Diego, CA.

The trip will provide an opportunity for members to spend 24 hours aboard USS Carl Vinson while it conducts training operations at sea. Participants will fly from Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) via a Navy C-2 Greyhound transport plane and land on the ship’s flight deck. Throughout the two days, members will have the opportunity to view and experience flight operations from several locations around the ship: visit the Bridge, Primary Flight Control, and other work centers on the ship; and eat with crewmembers and officers. Our delegates will also have the unique opportunity to meet with Capt. Douglas C. Verissimo, Commander of the USS Carl Vinson, and Rear Adm. James W. Kilby, Commander of Carrier Strike Group 1.

In September, U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter delivered an address to U.S. Navy sailors, Pacific Council members, and others onboard the USS Carl Vinson. Read more about his speech.
