A discussion with the Honorable Kevin Rudd, president of the Asia Society Policy Institute and former prime minister of Australia, on the key challenges facing Asia, the United States, and a shifting global order in 2017. This event is presented in partnership with the Asia Society Southern California.

2017 could prove a pivotal year for America’s global leadership, China’s role in Asia, and beyond. China and the new U.S. presidential administration are already showing signs of tension. The future of U.S. relations with multilateral organizations such as NATO and the United Nations remains unclear. And shifting international trends, such as the rise of populism and a growing skepticism of globalization, threaten to disrupt the global order in place since World War II.

What are the key challenges facing China and the United States in 2017? How will shifting international trends impact the fate of the post-World War II global order?
