January 29, 2015
11:00am to 12:00pm

Los Angeles

A Pacific Council conference call exchange on the regional implications of power shifts in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

The call featured Dr. Rachel Bronson, Senior Fellow for Global Energy at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and Dr. David Ottaway, Senior Scholar of the Wilson Center’s Middle East Program. Serving in the role of moderator was Ambassador Barbara Bodine, former U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

Our speakers considered Yemen's future following President Hadi's resignation and the rise of the Houthni movement, how Saudi Arabia will cope with the loss of King Abdulla and the ascension of newly crowned 79-year old King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, and what these power shifts mean for U.S. influence in the region.
