SUMMIT OF THE AMERICAS SERIES: RENEWING RECOVERY IN UNSETTLING TIMES

In an effort to support the Summit of the Americas, the Pacific Council will co-present a series of events focusing on critical diplomatic goals with various partner organizations from March through June 2022. This event is co-hosted with Americas Society / Council of the Americas and will feature Mr. Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region. 

Background 

The week of June 6th, President Biden will host leaders from the countries of the Americas—from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego—in Los Angeles, California for the Ninth Summit of the Americas. The Ninth Summit marks the first time the United States has hosted the event since the inaugural meeting in Miami in 1994. It is President Biden’s highest priority event for the region and the only hemispheric meeting of leaders.

Mr. Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region

Carlos Felipe Jaramillo is the World Bank Vice President for the Latin America and the Caribbean Region, overseeing Bank relations with 31 countries and a portfolio of ongoing projects, technical assistance and grants of almost US$32 billion. Under his leadership, the Bank’s operations in the region focus on fueling growth, reducing poverty, supporting equality and protecting the environment. Jaramillo was previously the World Bank country director for Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda, based in Nairobi.
