Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on U.S.-Africa Relations
July 29, 2019
6:30pm to 8:30pm

A Sustaining Member dinner with Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield on U.S.-Africa relations. This event is off the record.

Join us as we host Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to explore how the United States can refine its framework for U.S.-Africa cooperation and boost U.S. competitiveness on the continent.

By 2020, it is forecast that African consumers will contribute five times more to economic growth than the natural resource sector. This development illustrates the speed at which Africa’s economic landscape is changing. Additionally, seven of the 20 fastest growing economies in the world are now found in sub-Saharan Africa. As the number one foreign investor in the region, the United States stands to gain from the commercial aspirations and dynamism that exist across the continent, but complacency has already caused U.S. trade with the region to fall by 50 percent from 2010-2017. Both President Obama and President Trump have successfully championed a business-first approach to sub-Saharan Africa, but to capitalize on the momentum they’ve built, the United States must continue to adapt to the growing needs there.
