Deep Dive Simulation: Water Resource Management and the Beaufort Sea
Global Water Scarcity

Beaufort Seas

TBD

This simulation is the culmination of Deep Dive, a week of activities under our Global Water Scarcity Initiative. Deep Dive will be postponed until early 2019. Stay tuned for more details.

Join us for an interactive, one-day negotiation simulation in Los Angeles on water challenges in the Arctic Ocean. Participants will be assigned one of 10 roles on the day of the simulation and asked to advocate on behalf of the organization they represent (e.g. the U.S. Coast Guard, the state of Alaska, Blue Seas, etc.). With an expert facilitator, attendees will work through three rounds of negotiation to address a slate of issues in the contested Beaufort Sea.

The simulation is designed as an applied learning exercise for professionals of all disciplines. Attendees will gain negotiation experience and learn methods for influencing policy with or without official decision-making power. They’ll also have an opportunity to learn about the complexities of managing water disputes and how water intersects with other policy challenges. The simulation grapples with issues of energy policy and oil and natural gas exploration, national security infrastructure management, planning in the face of limited scientific data and potential climate change, and more.

Please note that, given the nature of the simulation, participants must be available for the full day in order to register—no late arrivals or early departures. For those unable to attend the full day, there may be an opportunity to attend as an observer.

Please contact Amie Kashon at akashon@pacificcouncil.org to register. Space is limited.
