Michael A. Santoro is a world-renowned business ethicist and Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship in the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. Previously, he was a Professor at Rutgers Business School. He has also held visiting appointments at the University of Zurich, the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the University of Notre Dame.

Prof. Santoro’s books include Profits and Principles: Global Capitalism and Human Rights in China (Cornell, 2000), China 2020: How Western Business Can-and Should-Influence Political and Social Change in the Coming Decade (Cornell, 2009), the co-edited volume Ethics in the Pharmaceutical Industry (Cambridge, 2005), and Wall Street Values: Business Ethics and the Global Financial Crisis (Cambridge, 2013). He is a Founding Co-Editor of Business and Human Rights Journal (Cambridge University Press) and serves on the Editorial Boards of Business Ethics Quarterly and the Journal of Human Rights.

In 2000, Prof. Santoro testified to the United States Senate Finance Committee in favor of granting China Permanent Normal Trade Relations and entry into the WTO. His business ethics consultancy work includes serving as an expert witness (for plaintiffs) in some of the largest pharmaceutical industry cases of the past decade, as well as working with non-profit organizations, including the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria (GBC Health) and the International Foundation for Autoimmune Arthritis.

Prof. Santoro holds a B.A. from Oberlin College, a J.D. from New York University School of Law, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. During his doctoral studies he worked as a Research Associate and case writer at Harvard Business School. He was also a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Santoro lives in Santa Clara, CA with his wife Robyn Burch, a surgical nurse, their twin boys Jack and Guy, and cat Wilhelmina.
