Jeff Bleich is a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences and Chair of the Center on Democracy and Disruptive Technologies at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia.  He serves as a federal mediator and a member of the National Security Education Board the U.S. Travel Commission.

Jeff was Special Counsel to President Obama, the U.S. Ambassador to Australia, and senior advisor to the Director of National Intelligence.

He clerked for Judge Abner Mikva of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, Chief Justice Rehnquist of the U.S. Supreme Court, and Judge Howard Holtzmann of the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in the Hague.  He also served as Special Rapporteur to the Permanent Court of Arbitration and earned certificates in Public and Private International Law at the Hague Academy.  

Jeff was a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP for 17 years, focusing on complex litigation, digital technologies, and high-impact pro bono matters. He was also Group CEO and Partner at Dentons, the special master in federal Multi-District Litigation, and Chief Legal Officer at Cruise.

He serves, or served, as Chair of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, Chair of PG&E Company during its 2019-2020 bankruptcy reorganization, Chair of the California State University Board, Chair of Nuix Ltd., President of the California State Bar, President of the Bar Association of San Francisco, Chair of the ABA’s Amicus Curiae Committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Amherst College. He is a life member to both the American Law Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations.

He has taught several courses at UC Berkeley, and publishes extensively. 

Jeff earned his BA magna cum laude from Amherst College, MPP from Harvard with highest honors, and JD from UC Berkeley School of Law Order of the Coif.  He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the California Law Review.
