We are excited to invite you to a roundtable discussion featuring a distinguished guest, Michael Schiffer, the Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

During our session, Mr. Schiffer will provide us with invaluable insights into USAID's latest initiatives and focus areas, with a specific emphasis on their efforts in the Pacific Islands and Central Asia regions. Following his presentation, we will have the opportunity to engage in an open and interactive roundtable discussion where you can pose questions, share your perspectives, and contribute to a meaningful dialogue on these critical issues.

Mr. Schiffer brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our discussion. He has had a remarkable career in the field of international affairs, including senior advisory roles in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Department of Defense. Mr. Schiffer's contributions extend beyond these roles, as he has also served as a program officer at the Stanley Foundation and held the esteemed Council on Foreign Relations Hitachi International Affairs Fellowship in Japan.

Speaker, Michael Schiffer is the Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia. 

From 2012 to 2022, Mr. Schiffer was a senior advisor and counselor on the Democratic Staff of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. From 2009 to 2012, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs. Before joining the Department of Defense he was a program officer at the Stanley Foundation, responsible for the Foundation's Asia programs as well as a range of other U.S. national and global security issues and in 2004-2005 was a Council on Foreign Relations Hitachi International Affairs Fellow in Japan. From 1995 to 2004, he worked on the staff of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), including as her senior national security adviser and legislative director. Prior to that, he was director of international security programs at New York University's Center for War, Peace, and the News Media and was co-manager of the Poipu Bed and Breakfast Inn in Poipu, Kauai.

Mr. Schiffer received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and graduate degrees from the London School of Economics and New York University.
