An event on the Role of California in a Changing World featuring Justice Mariano-Florentino (Tino) Cuellar, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. 

Join us as Justice Cuellar discusses the unique role California plays not only as a leader in technology and the battle against climate change but in strengthening democracy and as an example of both challenges and opportunities of adapting to new realities of the 21st century.

Lindsey Kozberg is Senior Program and Community Engagement Director at The Smidt Foundation, the private charitable foundation inspired by Eric Smidt’s deep commitment to help open doors of opportunity, and advance justice, equality, and safety for all. Her work includes supporting the foundation’s Harbor Freight Tools for Schools program, which invests in schools and teachers offering high school students pathways to graduation, opportunity, and careers through the skilled trades.

Mariano-Florentino (Tino) Cuéllar is the president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace –– the oldest think tank in America and the only one dedicated to pursuing global security and peace through its operations in the United States and India, China, Belgium, Lebanon, and Russia.  Cuéllar previously served for nearly seven years as a justice on the Supreme Court of California, the highest court of America’s largest judiciary, and led the courts’ efforts to better meet the needs of millions of limited-English speakers. He served two U.S. presidents in a variety of roles in the federal government, including as special assistant to the president for justice and regulatory policy at the White House in the Obama administration.
