Peter Brooks is the CEO and Co-founder of Sylmar Group, a water service and technology company. Founded in 2021, Sylmar Group has grown to over 350 employees in 22 states, providing mission-critical water infrastructure and industrial services. Prior to founding Sylmar, Peter worked in multiple leadership roles across the water industry.
Earlier in his career, Peter served as an infantry officer in the US Marine Corps, deploying twice to Al Anbar Province, Iraq where he led hundreds of missions in support of counterinsurgency and capacity-building operations. He achieved the rank of Captain. Peter also co-founded a policy initiative at The Aspen Institute, worked in two defense think-tanks, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Policy; Western Hemisphere Affairs).
Peter graduated from Harvard College with an AB in Government (High Honors) where he was a member of two national champion heavyweight rowing teams and the battalion commander of the MIT Navy ROTC. Peter received a Fulbright Scholarship to India and a joint MBA-MPP at Harvard Business School and Kennedy School of Government, where he was a Zuckerman Fellow, Tillman Military Scholar, George Leadership Fellow, Tim Day Marine Fellow, Truman National Security Fellow, and received a Derek C. Bok Award for undergraduate teaching excellence.
Peter is a frequent speaker at water industry events and his writing and work have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, National Public Radio, among other publications.
Peter serves on the board of the Mojave Desert Land Trust, a land conservancy based in Joshua Tree, and the California Volunteers Fund, a non-profit dedicated to furthering volunteerism and public service. Peter lives in Los Angeles, CA with his wife, artist Lily Stockman, and their three children.
