The Pacific Council invites you to join us on Wednesday, October 14, at 10 am PT, to discuss President Xi Jinping's September 23–25 state visit to Washington, D.C., his first trip to the U.S. capital in a decade. It follows the Pacific Council's May discussion, "What's Next for U.S.–China Relations?", which looked at President Trump's trip to Beijing. Attendees will hear from Dr. Jeff Wasserstrom, Chancellor's Professor of History, University of California, Irvine, and Anka Lee, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia and Pacific Council Member.

Few individuals have approached human rights advocacy in China from the perspective of a businessman. John Kamm has spent more than five decades engaging with China, first through business and trade, and later through a distinctive form of human rights diplomacy. On Thursday, October 15, at 9:00 am PT, the Pacific Council on International Policy will host a webinar, “From Businessman to Human Rights Advocate: A Conversation with John Kamm on China’s Political Prisoners.”

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 5:30 pm PT, the Pacific Council will host a conversation in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to examine how gender inequality is not merely reproduced in the aftermath of conflict and catastrophe but frequently intensifies. Attendees will hear from Madlin Sadler, Chief Operating Officer, International Rescue Committee, as she discusses what a more equitable approach to recovery looks like in practice, and Veena Reddy, Legal Advisor, International Joint Commission & Former Executive Deputy Assistant Administrator, USAID.
In addition to the conversation, the IRC is hosting a pre-event cocktail hour at Le Great Outdoor Restaurant, within walking distance of the event venue, from 4 pm to 5 pm.
