Sharing Space with our Hemispheric Partners:
A Latino Perspective on U.S. Policy toward Latin America

(October 2, 2012, Los Angeles) Released today, the final report of the Latino Leadership Task Force is a call to action for Washington to prioritize partners and markets in the Western Hemisphere, and to engage the Latino community as partners in the effort. Task Force Co-chairs Antonia Hernández and Solomon Trujillo note:

“One of the most important opportunities facing the United States lies in our own hemisphere, in the prioritization of Latin America when deploying the nation’s economic, diplomatic, and military assets.”
The report urges Washington to enact hemispheric policy that better reflects changing demographics in the United States and the growing influence of the U.S. Latino community, and furthermore drives desperately needed job creation and growth in the United States.
Convened by the Pacific Council on International Policy in partnership with the Mexico Institute, the bipartisan task force outlined specific foreign policy recommendations in four key areas:
  • Trade and economic development
  • Regional diplomacy
  • Security issues
  • Migration
