China Committee

The China Member Committee provides interested Pacific Council Members with access to smaller, more focused events that are designed by and responsive to the special interests of Committee members. Committee members have the opportunity to become more involved by designing events, participating in exchanges and panels, and expanding their interaction with fellow Pacific Council Members who share similar interests.

The China Member Committee is chaired by Dr. Robert Kapp, president of the China consulting firm Robert A. Kapp & Associates, Inc. From 1994 through 2004, Bob served as President of the US-China Business Council, a highly respected organization comprised of U.S. companies engaged in business with China. Throughout his career, Bob has had extensive exposure to China, as well as experience in Washington, D.C. and working with the media.

A Pacific Council Member from Port Townsend, Washington, Bob trained as a China scholar and holds a doctorate in modern Chinese history from Yale University. He has served on the faculties of Rice University and the University of Washington and was Executive Director of the Washington State China Relations Council, serving subsequently as President of the Washington Council on International Trade before assuming the presidency of the US-China Business Council in Washington, D.C. Bob is currently Senior China Advisor to the law firm K&L Gates, was formerly Senior China Advisor to The Asia Foundation, and sits on a number of nonprofit advisory committees and boards.
