April 3, 2014 – The Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania has chosen former Council Board member Geoffrey Garrett as its next dean. Vice Adm. Peter V. Neffenger nominated to be vice commandant of the Coast Guard
March 21, 2014 – President Barack Obama has nominated Council member Vice Adm. Peter V. Neffenger to be the next vice commandant of the Coast Guard. Council member Sunnie S. Kim featured in LA Business Journal
March 3, 2014 – Council member Sunnie Kim left South Korea in 1974 to pursue her career aspirations in the United States. She sought to "make her mark in America" and after arrving she co-founded two banks, and later a finance company she now heads, Hana Financial Inc. in Los Angeles. January 7, 2014 – The U.S. Senate has confirmed former Pacific Council Board member Janet Yellen to serve as the next chair of the Federal Reserve, after Ben Bernanke finishes his second term at the end of the month. Senate set to clear Janet Yellen for Fed
December 20, 2014 – The Senate is expected to wrap up its work for the year on Friday by moving to clear President Barack Obama's nomination of Janet Yellen (former Pacific Council Board member) to head the Federal Reserve. But under a bipartisan agreement reached on Thursday, the Senate will not vote to confirm Yellen, now the Fed's vice chair, until January 6th, the day it returns for the new year. US Ambassador to France signs IGA on FATCA with France
November 20, 2013 – On Nov. 14, 2013, the U.S. and France jointly announced that they’ve signed an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to begin implementation of the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).The agreement, signed by U.S. ambassador to France Charles H. Rivkin and French finance minister Pierre Moscovici, is a Model 1 reciprocal version. This designation indicates that financial institutions in each county will report information to their own respective governments; then the governments will exchange that information annually. Dark cloud over privacy in TPP negotiations
November 5, 2013 – The secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement is heading towards a privacy row, after it emerged that organisations could be prevented from mandating that personal and critical data be kept within Australia. The multilateral treaty, under negotiation by 12 Pacific Rim countries including Australia and the United States, includes provisions that prohibit states from mandating where companies store or transact data.Privacy experts say that, if ratified, the provision would mean that Australian government agencies and major enterprises would not be able to ensure personal and private data is stored in onshore data centres. LAX security chief takes job with LAPD
October 29, 2013 – Arif Alikhan, deputy executive director for law enforcement and homeland security at Los Angeles World Airports, will join the Los Angeles Police Department next year as its highest ranking civilian administrator. Alikhan, who joined the airport operator two years ago, will be special assistant for constitutional policing. October 12, 2013 – Reza Aslan may be Muslim, but he knows a lot about Jesus. The Santa Clara University alum has several degrees and decades of research to prove it, so it made sense to write a book about Jesus. When "Zealot, The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth" was published in July it sold well, but when a Fox News interview he did went viral, it shot up to No. 1 on the best seller lists. He answered with calm composure saying, "Well to be clear I'm a religious scholar with four degrees, including one in the New Testament and fluency in Biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades who also just happens to be a Muslim." Berggruen, chairman of the private equity firm Berggruen Holdings, made his $2.5 billion fortune buying and fixing troubled companies. July 30, 2013 – President Obama announced his intent to nominate Council member Noah Bryson Mamet as US Ambassador to the Argentine Republic. Mamet is Founder and President of Noah Mamet & Associates, a position he has held since 2004. He will succeed Steven B. Sample, current USC President and Pacific Council member, who will retire in August 2010.

February 24, 2010 - Board Member Geoffrey Cowan's play, Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon papers, made its debut at the New York Theatre Workshop February 24-March 28. Many of the shows, including the March 6 benefit for USC Annenberg, were followed by post-show discussions with leading journalists, political leaders and scholars.

January 25, 2010 - Variety favorably reviewed "Countdown to Zero," a new film on nuclear weapon proliferation that was produced by Council member Lawrence Bender and shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Bender's 2009 film "Inglourious Basterds" was recently honored with eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
